Does the VA Pay for In-Home Care?

Eligible veterans may qualify for VA-authorized in-home services through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide program provides support for eligible veterans who need assistance with personal care and activities of daily living. The VA determines eligibility and authorizes services based on each veteran's needs.

Comfort Home Care works with veterans receiving authorized care through the VA. Depending on the veteran's circumstances, a copayment may apply.

VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide Program

The VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide program helps qualifying veterans who need assistance with activities of daily living while continuing to live at home.
Depending on the veteran's assessed needs and authorization, assistance may include activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, toileting, mobility and other approved personal-care needs.
Comfort Home Care's non-medical caregivers provide assistance with authorized daily activities, helping veterans follow familiar routines and receive the support they need at home.

Who Qualifies for VA In-Home Care?

Eligibility is determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare who meet applicable clinical and community-care requirements may qualify for Homemaker and Home Health Aide services, provided the services are available. A VA social worker or healthcare team can assess the veteran's needs, explain available services, and help determine the next steps.
Eligibility does not automatically guarantee a specific number of caregiving hours or approval for a particular provider. The VA establishes the services and level of assistance authorized for each veteran.

How to Get Started With VA Home Care

If you or a loved one may qualify for VA-authorized in-home care, the process begins with your VA healthcare team. Here is how to explore your options and request assistance.

1. Contact Your VA Healthcare Team

Reach out to your VA healthcare provider or social worker and ask about eligibility for the Homemaker and Home Health Aide program. Explain which daily activities have become difficult and where additional support at home would be helpful.

2. Complete the VA Assessment

The VA will review your individual care needs and determine whether you qualify for in-home assistance. If approved, the VA will establish the type and amount of care authorized under the program.

3. Request Comfort Home Care as Your Provider

If you would like Comfort Home Care to provide your in-home services, let your VA healthcare team or social worker know. Provider selection depends on VA authorization, network requirements, and availability.
Comfort Home Care participates in the VA Community Care Network through TriWest for authorized services.

4. Contact Comfort Home Care

Once you have a VA referral or authorization, contact Comfort Home Care at (208) 681-5533. Our team can help you understand the next steps, discuss caregiver availability, and coordinate services in accordance with your VA authorization.
